Note that the lectures and exercises will be held in Finnish only and some of the lecture material is not available in English either. However, examinations, exercise problems and the course books are available in English. That material contains everything required to pass the course in the exam. Course content:

Course consists of two parts:

Principles of ATM-technology: Physical layer, ATM-layer and ATM adaptation layer. Traffic- and congestion control. Signalling and PNNI. IP over ATM. LAN-emulation. Broadband access techniques.

Introduction to WDM-technology. Components of optical networks. Static Networks. Wavelength routed networks. Linear lightwave networks: waveband routing. Logically routed networks. Evolution of optical networks: roadmap.

Schedule:

The lectures will be held in S2 at 14-16 on Tuesdays (starting 22.1.2002) and exercises in the same place at 13-14 on Tuesdays, just before the lecture. Check the following schedule. Note that both the lectures and exercises will be in Finnish.
